Music and Me

There’s a reason why I don’t usually go drinking and karaoke-ing in the middle of the week and here’s why: I started off singing “Thank God I’m a Country Boy” by John Denver and ended up belting out the feminist diatribe “What’s Up?” by Four Non-Blondes. (Kudos to my friend Ashawnta, who did a bang up job┬ásinging that song a couple years ago when she was visiting.)

for a revolution

When I staggered back to the table, I felt a need to apologize: “Man, I could NOT figure out the tune on that song.”

My uncle Roy patted my hand and said, “No, you couldn’t. But you’re a good kid anyway and I love you.”

Thank God.

I mean, if you’re going to sing feminist diatribes, you really should do a better job of it, shouldn’t you? And don’t you love John Denver’s glasses in the video below?

You’ll give me a big head with praise like that! If I recall correctly, you graced us with some John Denver when we visited. There are clearly some happy memories between you and Mr. Denver.

Childhood, you know. And I can actually carry the tune.
