Losing, a poem

Somewhere along the way, we lost.

There’s so much to lose, darling.

You can lose your way. You can lose

time. Spare change. Even love.

I’ve lost before and will lose again.

Sometimes right now, it feels

as though I am drowning.

Still, I know how to swim so

I won’t lose my life, at least

not yet.

Throughout the day, the light changes,

loses itself to night. And night

has its charms. But

thank god, eventually

night, too, loses as

light returns.

I sit here in the dark and wait.
